Hello gear heads. I bought a none running 84 gpz 750 last month that hasn`t been run for a few years. I am retired and I thought this would keep me busy. IT HAS. Got a oem manual and did the usual carb cleaning and maintenance. Every thing is stock. Even though I havn`t sync the carbs yet It ran real strong on a short test ride. I pulled the plugs and they are on the light gray side not tan like they should be. The stock bs34 mikuni jet is a 110. Do I have to go with a 112.5 to get it more rich? Your help is appreciated. In my opinion, if it runs well, don't see any reason why the stock jets would be wrong, assuming no one has messed with them. You can try simply turning the mixture screws. On the mikunis don't know if they are fuel or air, the manual should tell you, usually if they are on the engine side, they are fuel, if on the other side they are air. If bike is from the US, it might have a locktighted caps on the screws, that could be removed, very, very, very carefully.

Hi I'm not trying to teach you how to suck eggs but when you checked the plugs did you look down into it where the ceramic meets the metal as this is the most accurate way of guaging the colour, light grey isnt that bad, its not perfect but it won't blow holes in your pistons, whereas if they were as white as the driven snow then you will have to sort it as this will melt your pistons. |

Hi Mikey, this is purely an opinion. At that time everybody was getting into 'lean burn' technology. I bought a Z750 L4 in '86 and almost wet myself the first time I pulled the plugs (by the way, I recommend a thin coat of Copper grease on the threads before refitting). Turns out this pale white-gray colour is normal as opposed to the ciggie filter peachy colour I was used to. I still worry about it and the bike still hasn't welded the valves to the pistons.... Hope this experience a bit. You could also talk (not book in ) to a dealer for a 2nd or 5th opinion.
