Adhesive removal help

I have a J&M CB wired to my 2007 Vulcan 900. The wiring brackets stuck to the gas tank have come loose (either by a too-hot sun, or the people who mounted everything didn't clean the paint before they did it.) I'm getting some new parts with fresh adhesive, and I was wondering what the safest way to remove the old adhesive would be without ruining the paint. Alcohol? Gasoline? Probably NOT fingernail polish remover.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

If you go to the nearest auto supply store they have adhesive remover that doesn't damage paint.

Try a hair dryer...this melts the glue and allows easy removal of almost all stickers.
