Any chance some of you would like to discuss the early New York Steak project and would have any info on the rare test bikes used before actual production. Just shaking the bushes ............ THANKS! Steve Edited by 72Z1900, Apr 8 2010, 03:19 AM.

Hi WIZZ, thanks for the great links.....any idea where Z1F00002 from the Route 66 video is now??? Do you know if it was originally Kelly Green? I always thought the Green didn't appear until after January 73 and mostly the Euro bikes were this color. All the early Z1's I have references on were originally Candy Brown & Orange built before Jan 73.............I also had thought 002 was in a private collection in Cali.........great video none the less!! "The OWNER is Taner he use to own Route 66 in Oceanside. He owned # 2 which was restored and he owned one of the 900XX pre-production bikes that he bought from a Kawasaki dealer in Nebraska. He sold both to a Japanese collector about 8 or 9 years ago. Route 66 was a big business for a few years but died when the Japanese market for Z1s slowed down. " Quote from a friend who collects the Z1 and knows Taner. Taner owns Z1 PARTS @ http://z1parts.net/catalog/index.php?cPath=33&sort=2a&page=4 Sounds like he restored Z1F00002 and put a green body kit on it. As for the miles only Taner knows for sure.........the preproduction bike he had would not have a Z1F frame number but a 900XX engine & matching frame number that would be the title VIN also he also said Taner did not have any prototype V1 900's or Test Bikes. This is a great video and I posted it on the Z1OC site and everyone is going nuts viewing it........may bring the Community back together! THANKS WIZZ Steve |

It is my understanding that all the North American Z1's were rootbeer and that the green bikes went to Europe. However, I have corresponded with a VJMC member who swears that an east coast Kawasaki dealer had new, green 1973 Z1's for sale...no way, of course, to check this story. Michael |

Hi Michael, I was never aware of the Kelly Green 73 Z1 til 75 or 76 when a buddy bought one from Canada. He said it was an optional color and available after January 73 even in the States but I have never seen one documented as sold in the USA. These were the European colors for the 73 Z1 and the 73 wasn't sold in Europe until well into the 1973 year. i'd like to see some better pics of the #2 bike, still hoping Taner will see this and join in. CheersSteve |

I could be wrong here, but, the Z1A appears to have an aftermarket seat, or cover, I would give first place to the Z1??? Rob. |
