Title: Me and my Zl 750 eliminator

Blagadain - February 5, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
Hello all. Heres my first post on this site. Just want to introduce myself and give a bit of info just to let ye know who i am.
You can call me "Blagadain" (irish for baldie!), or Blag for short, thats my regular nickname anyway.
I live in the south of Ireland, married 3 years with 2 great kids (6 & 8yrs). I've always had bikes, started off with the ubiquitous honda 50 chicken chaser when I was 11 yrs old. From there I went on to... and heres the list...

Honda 90 (wheeeeew),
Yamaha 90 (it gets a bit better honest)
Yam RD 80,
RD 125,
RD500 (3 weeks...crashed it)
FZR500 (loved it but hated sore wrists all the time...)
and to date, I've owned..
The love of my life, (well second, If the wife ever comes across this LOL)
a Kawasaki, ZL 750 eliminator, black.

I bought the 'Lim back in 1994 when the novelty of driving the sht out of sports bikes wore off. When I bought it, it was in poor nick but I was determined enough to searchout all over the place for any original bits that were broke or missing so I was left with a fully original mint ZL..... and that was before we had internet and search engines...LOL.
One of the most comfortable bikes I've ever ridden, could putt along all day and not have broken back and wrists at the end of the road. Nice motor with lots of torque, a great cruiser and straight line drag bike. As for corners, well the ZL boys here know all about the handling of these I'm sure.... interesting to say the least... not for the faint hearted.
About 8 years ago, coincedentally around same time as my first born, I kinda got a bit scared of bikes after a big tank slapper scare and gave me time for thoughts to the whole mortality thing with new baby in the house and all that, so the 'lim got used less and less, until finally it was pushed into the corner of my workshop, sadly, and was covered up. The one sensible thing i had the good fortune to do was to remove all the chrome bits and bring them into the house, into the hot press (nice and snuggy in there).
There it sat, in the workshop, all loanly for the last 7 years.

So heres the born again biker bit...

The temptation to sell raised its ugly head from time to time but luck prevailed and I fought off those thoughts (most of them the wifes), always thinking some day I might get the interest again. That very day came, about 4 weeks ago. Dont know how, but the force was strong in this one and the covers were pulled off the bike, the dust was blown off and the decks

Blagadain - February 5, 2007 07:40 PM (GMT)
........and the decks were cleared of all other projects and the 'lim took centre stage in the shed.
So theres where I've been spending the last few weekends and evenings, cleaning, touch up painting some rusty bits and de bugging some electrical problems. I still havent started it yet, waiting for the startor motor to come back from its visit to the starter motor doc. but I have been busy stripping down calipers, carbs etc, giving the whole cycle a fairly good going over for any bits that need to be taken care of..

So thats it..... theres me,

Hope to make ye're aquaintence over the next few days/weeks. No doubt I will have some problems to address and i'm hoping there will be some help from those of ye that can.

Hi guys,

Been pretty busy over the last few weeks. Well, the bike is now running, sweet too. Had to strip and clean the carbs. God i missed the punchy torque you get from these things... Gave it a real good going over, replaced a few bearings that felt a bit rumbly, stripped the calipers and generally sorted the mechanical side of things. Beyond that its been cosmetic work, painting polishing. Almost there, just waiting on delivery of a few bits and I'll be cruzin.. :228 B) Took it for a few short rides on the road by my home and it is GOOD to be back in the saddle!!
Fitted LED tail bulbs and they are awesome. Just for the look alone, they are bright and instant.
