Title: Er6f/n Mods

the_colonel - October 31, 2006 12:30 AM (GMT)
Well i have had my 6f now for 6 months and have done a few mods, tail tidy, hugger. Has anyone else done any mods which they recommend? brakes? suspension? exhaust?

Are there any other Er6 owners from the portsmouth / southampton area?

Hi there, I work in Southampton and live near Ringwood. Got a black ER-6N which I'm very pleased with! Only mods so far are a tank pad, sports mirrors and a rear hugger although I've got some BMW hand guards which I'm going to stick on for the winter.

Take a look at this and this for some modded ER6's. Both somewhat OTT but different nonetheless!

Hi, I have fitted an akrapovic exhaust, power commander + dyno time to optimise the performance, rear hugger, tail tidy and new rear indicators & last week, mirror extenders as the standard ones are a joke and quite frankly, dangerous. Runs very well and has a very nice sound now, I recommend the slip on to anyone. I uploaded a short video to utube with the subject "Kawasaki ER6-F with Akravopic exhaust." Have a look and listen! Cheers. Greg. (SE London) :099

Fit a Bitubo Rear Shock and Fork Kit including new top caps looks mint rides great.

Ask Dave Hallet in the minitwin champs.

I'm rather tempted to fit twin headlights to my N along with a set of wider renthalesque braced bars... Not sure if it'll 'work' though without moving the instrument pod.

Here we go... comments welcome! Not 100% sure whether it's an improvement on the original unit but it certainly makes it different!! Basically trying to make the bike look a bit 'meaner' like the Triumph Speed Triple or a Buell Lightening wihtout spending £8k!

hi nice bike but would go with flat bars :444

monkeyseemonkeydo - January 24, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
By flat bars, do you mean Renthal style braced bars? Cheers for the comments guys!

hi i would try flat drag bars

monkeyseemonkeydo - January 24, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
Hmm... ok... That's got me thinking now... how would drag bars change the way the bike looks and rides? I'd been planning fitting some lower rise Renthalalikes but am intrigued as to what drag bars are like.

For £14 I thought I may as well give drag bars a go. Can someone tell me what angle they should be fitted to the bike please? When looking at the bike from the side should the bars be pointing down or back or what?

Cheers,

Dave

And here we go with drag bars fitted!

Feels very different when riding, will probably take a while to get used to it. Also not sure whether to fit the hand guards on or not... will need to source new bolts if I do since I've changed the bar ends...

hi a Definite improvement .i would go without hand guards but at end of day thats up to you. good luck . :423

monkeyseemonkeydo - February 1, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
I might try the guards back on just to see what it looks like but failing that I'm tempted to dump the mirrors in favour of some barend mirrors. The stock ones offer really quite cr@p rear vision and I think it would look better.

Tried the hand guards back on and they just don't work with the new bars and headlight so am gonna run without them. Cheers for the comments,

Hi Rach, bike looks good! Is that the standard belly pan you've painted or is it an aftermarket one? I'm tempted to paint my stock one gloss black but would need to sand it smooth first to get a good finish...

Cheers,

Dave

Where are you?

monkeyseemonkeydo - February 13, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
All the way daan saath near Southampton unfortunately. I take it you're in Perthshire? (I'm actually from a bit North of Aberdeen but I'm at uni in Southampton).

how does the er6 ride with the flat bars? i think they look cool and wondered how the bike handles

monkeyseemonkeydo - February 23, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
The drag bars were put on mainly for looks- as advised by the guys on here. To be honest I haven't noticed a huge difference in riding the bike (once I got used to the change in position). They obviously make you lean over the front more and give the bike less of a 'sit up and beg' position so a bit more sporty feeling. No complaints really!

David: Can I ask what sort of trade in you got for the ER? I'm slightly tempted to get something a little bigger like the Z750 but as I got the ERn new about 6 months ago I don't want to lose a heap of money in the process.

Dave

monkeyseemonkeydo - February 24, 2007 04:48 PM (GMT)
That's a damn good trade in price!! I got my bike from Bournemouth Kawasaki too- good bunch of guys. To be honest I think I'll hang on to the ER for a bit longer- for one thing it still feels plenty fast enough for me and because I only got my full license last September I don't have any no claims yet so insurance on the likes of a Z750 is likely to start to get silly!

Maybe bump into you sometime at Bike Night in the summer or something.

Ride safe,

Dave

Done several mods to mine as it is mostly used as a track bike (daft I know, but there you go ). The best value add-on by far is to modify the front suspension, which is pretty harsh as standard and underdamped. Maxton springs and spacers come to about £80 and make a tremendous difference.Changing them is not a difficult task, takes about an hour. Definitely worth the money.

monkeyseemonkeydo - April 19, 2007 07:14 PM (GMT)
I've just added a pair of Oberon bar end mirrors which tidies up the look of the bike a good bit since removing the droopy 'style' ones. Will post some pics when I get the chance.

I've got a Scott Oiler & immobiliser for my Er6F. I've also got the Kawasaki mirror extensions and a spoiler screen.

The spoiler screen is brilliant. My daily commute is 25 miles each way and most days I can have a good run on the dual carriageway. The original ER6F screen didn't offer any protection at 65+ and I was getting the wind hitting me on my upper chest. With the spoiler screen I'm really comfy at those speeds and I'd imagine :P that it's comfy until well past 85.

If you're planning to do lots of motorway miles then I really recommend the spoiler screen.

Forgot to say what had been done.
Power commander remus can, hagon rear shock, maxton fork internals, bungs, hugger, clip ons,led light,......well, you get the idea.

nigeharford - August 21, 2007 10:29 PM (GMT)
Oh, and rearsets.

Earlier this year at Rockingham.

Geoffers - August 25, 2007 09:35 AM (GMT)
There's definitely a distinct improvement in protection. If you get into a crouch you can just about hide behind the spoiler screen. I only do this in the very worst rain because I like my back the way it is and osteopaths are expensive ;)

Here's a piccie... (I actually took this to illustrate the mirror extenders, but you get a halfway decent shot of the screen too.)
