Title: Restoring a 2006 ZZR-600
Description: Only minor damage

Hello everyone,

I am thinking about acquiring 2006 ZZR-600 from a salvage yard. They want $3500.00 USD. I took a look at it today and it had a broken gear shifter, right turn signal (didn't see the left, so I would have to replace that entirely) and some scratches.

Nothing else could I see.

My question is, is it worth it?

I am new to bike repairs and if I acquire this, it will be my first bike as well.

The guy where I would get it from said he can sell the shifter for about $30.00-$40.00. I didn't ask about the turn signal lights but I don't think that they would be too much either.

The bike was sitting probably since early January of this year and I know that I would have to change the oil. Since it only had 917 miles on it, I assume that the brakes should still be good. The tires are still good/new looking as well.

Does the broken shifter mean that there will have to be something done to clutch/clutch cable/clutch lever?

The chain was a little rusty too. Will there be much that it would take to get the bike running since it was sitting for about 9 months?

What would be involved in getting a bike like this ready for riding?

Thanks for any replies I get,

Geoff.
