Hi,
I'm having probs getting the bike to run right! It's a GPz1100 B2 with fuel injection. When I start it up from cold with the fast idle lever on it ticks over and revs lovely, as it warms up and starts coming off the fast idle lever it starts running rough! The revs aren't consistant, it bogs then picks up as you rev it and there is quite a bit of smoke out the exhaust! The plugs are black when I take them out also!
It's like it still thinks its cold and is running too rich? I've tested the engine temperature sensor as per the manual and assume it to be ok, also I'm getting the right voltages out of the ECU!
Any ideas or help would be more than appreciated!!
Should I stick with it or ditch the FI in favour of carbs??
You could try the lambda sensor (CO sensor), might be dirty
Hi, this is a common problem, 2 things milage and service record, nead the details, the worst problem is the air induction plate this gets sticky, and vibrates, this causes irratict running.
But start from step one and lets do basics, compression check all must be relativley equal and with in spec, , if not before ripping apart check injector mounts are sound, and air box connectors are in place, if fine, check the air filter, is clean and not full of oil at the base, the breather from the engine to the filter will mist up your air filter,
if the bike is chuntering after choke, you may have an injector staying open,
to save a lot of greaf put some ( cost more than gold) high grade fuel in, and a drop of in jector cleaner and give it a soft run for 5 miles then a 5 mile blast, if this fails.
but as said before all that i do nead more details, speculation on limited info is a waste of time, kozzy
Cheers for the replies!
I have done pretty much all of the checks suggested apart from a compression check. If it was a sticking injector surely it would run rough right from the start not just after its warmed up??
A brief history of the bike....... I bought it from a mate of a mate who stripped it 8 years previous with the intention of doing it up and never did so it sat there in boxes for that time. I've spent 12 months restoring it to the present condition. I had it running on the bench, ie frame, engine, electrics and tank and as far as I can remember it ran great and hence I decided to carry on the restoration! Now its finished I have ridden it 3 times and the problem slowly developed. It started off running ok just the revs didn't drop quick so changing gear was a bit awkward but it ran ok nevertheless! Now like I've said when cold ticks over and revs great but when warm runs rough, tick over varies slightly and when you rev it it bogs a bit then picks up!
I didn't expect it to be plain sailing but I think because things have gone so well up to now I'm even more gutted the bike looks great but doesn't run and I'm not having much luck finding the problem!!
I wouldn't mind paying a shop now to fine tune it but so far the people I've spoken to haven't filled me with confidence in finding the problem and I'd still have to pay the labour charges!!!
