Hi people, I run a VN800, bought 5years ago to run to Spain and back and was so impressed with it, I kept it. Ive serviced it myself twice now and last weekend gave it her third. Now the trouble starts.
Had a major flooding problem but it seems to have cured itself. But, as sweet as she is on idle and on full throttle at standstill, when I put her in gear and try to pull away, the engine dies. Every time.
Ive started with the kickstand down and up, tried starting in gear and out with clutch in, all is well, tick over dont miss a beat. Ive took the sidestand switch off, WD40'd it. All seems well there. Under the tank is a connecter which a couple of years ago came loose and gave me the same symptoms, checked that and found it fine. The carbs have not been tampered with ever, but like I said, when I want to pull away, no go.
Any ideas?
Found the trouble...broken wire from sidestand switch to connector. Note to self, check entire system, not just the ends...............
Well done on finding the problem and thank you for following it up and explaing how you solved it :D
