Title: Eliminator 1990 Carbs
Description: Carbs needed

amanda.comley - June 4, 2008 12:39 PM (GMT)
Hi all,
I have just bought an Eliminator 1990, She looks gorgeous, sounds fantastic and I love her to bits!
BUT
The mechanic says she needs new carbs!
She is an ELIMINATOR 250 bn. (Canadian import???)
I have just come back from the mechanic, he took the plug out of one of the carbs and that was fine. The other was really wet!
There is absolutely NO pulling power (apart from looks!)
Any ideas? Desperate for carbs before MOT and Taxing her.
Is there any other model carbs that would fit?

Welcome aboard Amanda

What model of Eliminator have you got? There are at least six different engine sizes alone, plus different models as well.

The carbs will probably need cleaning and balancing. If the bike has not been used for a while before you bought it, the petrol goes stale and can leave deposits that block the fine openings in the carburettors.

A bit more history and info and I am sure we can save you some money!

Either the faulty cylinder is way too rich, or the spark plug is defective and not burning the mixture.

Does the bike tick over sweetly?. Try drying and cleaning the dodgy spark plug, then swapping them over. Does the fault move to the other cylinder, or does it stay put and foul the new spark plug.?

Hi,
she ticks over fine, the mechanic says that the adjustment screw has been glued in place!
So I probably do need to replace it.
Do I need to replace both, one is fine but should I buy two so they match?

'Glued in place', does he mean the idle adjuster knob?. Should be a plastic or metal knob you can twist with your fingers. If so , is it just glued back in place, or glued so it does not turn?

Or does he mean the idle adjustment screw? which is actually a small screw on the carburettor. If so, you may have a problem as it needs to be adjustable to set the carburettor up correctly.

If you mean buying a replacement carb, then they should come as a pair if buying secondhand, but please report back on my previous suggestions before spending any money.
