Hi All, New to this forum and new to the two wheel adventure so this may see like a stupid question :444 , But what oil should I be using on my Zephyr 1100 and where is the oil filter and do I need to know anything before I attempt an oil change. Many thanks for any advice, George.

Hi George and Welcome! :D

Don't worry about asking what you think is a daft question - if you need to know something, how else are you going to find the answer?

Not sure which oil to suggest - there are lots of types out here and some people swear by a brand or mieral, semi-synthetic or fully synthetic!

I would say that if you have the owners manual/ handbook - see which weight of oil is stated there. eg 15/40 or 20/50 etc. You can use multi grade stuff that you use in a car engine - its usually cheaper in a car parts store than in a bike shop!.

I would also say that it is best to change your oil when the engine is warm - so do it after a run! :D
This way, the oil will flow more readily (and quickly!) - so drains easily.
If you can have your bike on its main (centre) stand, and place an old washing up bowl under the engine to catch the oil.
From memory, the oil drain plug is a 17mm socket and is at the lowest point of the engine. It may be quite tight, so be prepared to use an extension on the end of your socket wrench - and apply steady pressure! Be careful or you may bash your knuckles whe the bolt becomes free!
The oil filter is held in place by the same plate that the oil drain plug bolt goes through. It may be necessary to unscew this plate to access the filter.
Hope this helps/ :D
If you need more info - ask. :D
