Bought bike in London about 2 months back.Only had 2500 on it.Never noticed a sound when buying it ,but when I got home this clicking sound had appeared :o .It is one of them sounds that really annoys. :256 .It seems to come from the left hand side of the engine.I beleive tis is common with this bike but it is quite loud and annoying when it is ticking over.Took it to a mechanic to ask him and he seems to think it is nowt and says just ride and enjoy. At least yer cant hear it when out riding. :711 Does any one else have this prob and can owt be done.... :kawas
hi, i think the clicking noise you are reffering to is an air valve, that lets air into the exhaust system to stop it from popping on the overrun. the clicking should only happen when u blip the throttle, not on tickover, try lowering the tickover.
I HAVE A 06 900LT IT HAS A TICKING NOISE IN IT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL BY A MECHANIC HE TOLD ME TO RUN A SYNTHETIC BLEND OIL IN IT AND IT WOULD QUITE DOWN. I HAVE NOT PUT IT IN YET WAITING UNTIL SPRING BUT I PUT SYN. IN MY SPORTSTER I HAD AND IT HELPED WITH IT.

WHAT IS A TICKOVER? Is that some kind of Term from outside the USA. :007
Look 9 out of 10 Kawasaki's have tickover put in them at the factory. You can't get it out of the motor. It is put there to let you know it is running so you don't try to Turn it over again :466 Don't worry about it unless it stops ticking. :laf
Besides, I have a 2004 Vulcan Nomad 1500 that has ticked from day one. And I have put that bike through hell. And after putting 55,000 miles on it I guess you could say it has "Taken a Licking and kept on TICKING." :laf
The only way to make it go away is to put a good set of DRAG PIPES on the bike.
No I'm just messing (JOKING) with you...
Look that tick that you are hearing could be alot of things.
1. Poor oil could be one of them. (Run 20w 50 or a good SYNTHETIC BLEND in it)
2. The oil is not getting to the top end of the motor (On to the Valves)
3. The time'n chain may be a little loose (Tentioner bushing going out)
4. Valves may be out of adjustment.
If I were you I would change the oil to a 20w 50 in case the guy that had it before you never changed the oil. When you do that the Ticking should stop after the motor warms up to opperating temp and the fresh oil Lubes the valves and the top end of the motor.
Make sure that when you change your oil filter to use one with a anti drainback shield in it. This will make sure that some of the oil stays in the top end of the motor. That way when you start it your top end is not rub'n metal against metal!
Also make sure that you remove and clean the oil screen also.
But reguardless of what you do the bike will always have a tick when you first start it up.... Because it's a Kawasaki and they like to TICK! :zrx
Hope this helps you and your ticker!
