Title: Mushrooms

magic_wand - June 26, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
Hi All

Have just bought a new ER6f now 10 days old. Asked the dealer to fit the mushrooms, he replied that there was a problem of some sort that Kawasaki had identified and that at present he cant get them, any one elaborate on this?

Thanks
Magic

Got mushrooms on mine - fitted by the dealer with no problems.

Suggest your dealer contacts DK in Newcastle for advice.

Rand G ones went on just fine on my ER6n and look strong enough to be used as jacking points to lift the whole bike !

That may have something to do with the frames cracking... There was a little issue with some frames being stressed at the engine mounts and my local dealer thought that the Kawa crash posts make the joint stiffer than it can handle which could cause problems. I've also go the R&G one's on my 6n and because they fit onto the frame tubes alone and don't go near the engine mounts I think they're ok.

Some details of the frame issue here

I had 'shrooms installed on my bike a few months ago, soon after had an accident at 50mph and they said if I didn't have them, the engine wouldv'e been screwed.

SO pleased I got them as my bike is good as new, so make sure you get some!

I think that the new frames have a little extra strengthening to avoid potential cracks around the upper engine mounts, and that some sliders - OEM and R&G had to have the mounts modified to clear it.

I have been thinking for some time about the pros and cons of mushrooms. I have the 2007 Z750. The bike looks fab and most mushrooms are not the best looking things ?
But in the event of an accident, they could save a fortune ?
Should I pass that risk over to my insurers, after all thats what they are there for?
It may save a claim if the damage is minor. It could be more worth while putting the limited damage right out of your own pocket?
What a dilemer.....What shall I do.... :256
