slipping in and out of third gear. Changed the selectors,changed the gears,changed the selector drum but still the same. Anyone got any ideas what to try next? 1998 model

Sorry, I've been racking my brain on this one, but as you have already changed forks/drum etc I'm at a loss to explain it. I'll let you know if I have any more ideas.

Finally found where the problem was. It was not in the input shaft gears, but in the output shaft gears. unless the shaft is disassembled the wearing is not obvious. Anyway changed 2,3,4 gears and everything is fine now. Just for anyones FYI who may encounter similar problems

my 99 zx9 is slipping in and out of 3rd gear. should i replace everything u did or just the output shafts?

It could be shims in the gear itself, so you might just need to replace the one gear, but if you want to be sure.
If you can't be sure, replace the whole lot if you can find a pair of second hand gear cluster.
Eitherway it's a crank case split, good luck with it
