my recently obtained z550 g7 had a problem when ever i started it..it ran sweet for 4 seconds then a god awful rattle from the top end..brain tells me to check the oil level..no oil in the side cover window,brain then says "this rattle cant be oil level alone,need to strip engine"(this is wear it goes pear shaped)i stripped the lump down,cleaned it all up,it looks great(still niggling oil level quiry in me brain?)..broke skirt from one of the pistons so had to replace them all(ouch)..almost rebuilt the lump (with no visible problems yet and the oil level quiry still in me brain?)..surely not oil level low...i couldnt take it no more..i measured the oil that came out of the sump..just under a litre when it should be 3 litres..i swear to god that it looked like 3 litres when it came out in the tray...you can call me a twat if you wish..and yes i have learned my lesson.

Don't know what the lesson you learnt, but I can tell you that you'll never get an oil reading just after you have just run your engine, you have to wait until the oil has drained from the top end and the oil cooler if you have one.

sorry i should have been clearer...the lesson was to check the oil level properly before taking the engine to bits (ie dont jump the gun)...the no oil in the sight hole was when the engine was cold before starting...
