Hi everybody !!
I wonder if there is anyone who can shed a glimmer of light on my problem!
I have heard of (and even met 1 person ) people who have had problems with thier zx9r gearboxes - normaly starts with 5th gear... In fact I was at a track day in Taupo last year and met a pomme guy with a zx9r ( a 2001 model ) who was complaining about 5th gear probs, well I explained that I had heard of similar stories, but only with models predating 2002.
Well, mine is a 2002 and hey presto! 5th is slipping badly and when in any gear it is impossible to wheel the bike backwards with the clutch in...
So it looks like a strip down, but I thought Id ask you nice people out there if there is any advice or warnings or, in fact, anything related to this pain in the $%£" problem!!
So, I thank you all in advance for any possible feedback, and I hope all your gearboxes remain minty and sharp!

Hi Matt, when you say 5th is 'slipping' exactly what do you mean. Surely if in any gear with the clutch lever pulled in, you should be able to roll the bike forward or backwards as the clutch plates are separated, has your model got the back torque limiter clutch like the 9R B4, I had a similar problem with very bad clutch drag, turned out to be one of the legs on the spider spring behind the clutch drum had broken off and wedged itself in there somewhere, have a look it's dead easy to get in there. 180pete

Hi Matt, sorry, the springs are not behind the clutch drum, they are visible when you take the pressure plate off, they sit under the clutch centre nut. :599

:kawa Hi Matt The Manual says; Friction plate worn or warped. Steel plate worn or warped. Clutch spring broken or weak. Clutch hub or housing unevenly worn. No clutch lever play. Clutch inner cable trouble. Clutch release mechanism trouble. Hope this helps.

hi matt , sounds bad my friend, i have pulled loads of these gearboxes apart , they are pretty weak to be honest,it sounds like you have bent a selector fork which is now holding two gears together. only other thing i can think is clutch has broken up and the one way gear on back of clutch is jammed.
