help..has anybody had problems with a lot of travel on front brake lever ??
i have had calipers overhauled,got braided hoses on,system has been bled several times,brakes work well but lever travel is too much & gives a lack of confidence in brakes.

hi i have a 1997 f3 . i had the same problem mate all i did was change the brake pads first the lever would only move about 2mm and got a lot of drag and they nearly seized on the motorway so i had to bleed them about 6 or 7 times that didn't work so i overhauled the calipers put the calipers back together again had to bleed to brakes that's when i got the lack, i just worked at them till the lack took up a bit but after a few days they just when back to normal ,don't know why .i use my bike every day some times i had to pump the the lever till the lack took up after that they were fine.

i have a similar problem on my 96 model. A mate suggetsted using a zip tie to hold the brake lever half way in when you park it for the night. This will open the system up and seeing as air bubbles rise in theory the should come up to the resevoir and fix the problem.

have improved slightly by removing whole brake system and leaving master cylinder&reservoir lower down than calipers,left overnight,then bled system again which got a small amount of air out

i have got same problem with mine i have 99 g2 model, kawk told me i need a brake master cylinder overhaul anyone know if that will cure the soft front brake let me know please :P :991

hi, had the same problem with my 9-r e1, had new seals fitted, braided lines, bled them, bled them, bled them, so many times, heres wot happens,.. bleed them in situ, disks actually flex, (semi floating) then take off caliper, with pads in place, (one at a time obviously) measure thickness of disk, insert wooden block between pads, pump pistons out against wooden block, (no flexing now) remove wood, wiggle caliper back on, trying not to push pads back, do other side, job done. mechanics trick of the trade, if you pump them to much they will drag (not good) push back in, try again with slightly thicker wood. remember if your disks are worn they will have a lip best to replace.. happy braking.

Got the same problem on mine zx6r (2000). Have braided hoses fitted and the last owner had a new seal kit. I have stripped the callipers and cleaned them and blead them 3 or 4 times and it makes no difference. If i have the adjuster on 5 they come back to the bars so i have to have it on 1 which is a bit of a stretch for me. Gives me no confidence in the breaks.

seems to me you are all sufering from "bentusdiscs" think about it if the disc is flexing/bending then it will push the calaper - piston back into the calaper when you reaply the brakes the calaper/pad has to take up the distance of the forced- back piston ....resulting in incresed brake lever travel ta-td ...fix your discs if you can see your discs atucaly bending what can i say :256

hi i had the same problem on my zx6rj1 2001 in the end with new discs pads caliper overhaul and braided lines bleed them 6 times still no good back bleed them forceing fluid from the caliper back to the resivoir with a simple tool called an eazy bleed with 20psi more pressure than normal worked wonders ps you do relise that you need to bleed with cap on normally

This looks like a problem only on zx6 for some reason, my F model is the same, done all what people have tried.
If the disc's are warped then you would feel a pumping in the lever as the the pads are pushed in and out by the warped disc.
I use the ziptie method myself and it seems to work, but I don't sue the bike every day.
